Capturing the graphic elegance and refined geometry of the Art Deco movement, this brass portrait panel dates to the late 1920s or early 1930s and is signed “Esther Brann” in the lower left corner. Brann (1899–1998) was an accomplished American artist, illustrator, and children's book author who trained at prestigious institutions including Cooper Union, the Art Students League of New York, and Paris's Académie Julian. Throughout her prolific career, she effortlessly bridged literature and visual art—personally illustrating her own popular books like Nanette of the Wooden Shoes and Lupe Goes to School alongside creating fine art prints, commercial graphic designs, and distinctive Art Deco metalwork.
