Our antique Art Nouveau candleholders are an exceptional pair of early 20th-century artifacts, originally crafted circa 1910 by the esteemed Canadian firm Desmarsis and Robitaille. Specialized in high-quality religious and ecclesiastical ware, the manufacturer designed these pieces to serve as elegant church candle holders. Today, they stand as rare collector's items that beautifully bridge the gap between religious tradition and the fluid, architectural aesthetics of the Art Nouveau movement.
The design features a striking juxtaposition of materials, pairing a tall, slender column of silver-plated white metal with a vibrant, blue Bristol cased glass globe. These globes, often referred to as opaline, provide a brilliant pop of color while diffusing light from within. Known as "candlesticks with system," these holders historically utilized an internal mechanism that allowed the candle or tea light to be raised or lowered, ensuring the flame remained perfectly positioned within the glass shade.
This pair offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of ecclesiastical history. With their stepped circular bases and clean lines, these pieces are as much a work of art as they are functional lighting. While their origins are rooted in church history, their bold color and timeless silhouette make them a versatile addition to today's interiors.
