Shreve, Crump & Low is often referred to as America’s oldest jeweler, founded in Boston in 1796. Beyond fine jewelry and silver, the firm has long offered an exceptional selection of luxury giftware and home furnishings, including decorative trays of this caliber. Historically patronized by elite families such as the Vanderbilts and the Kennedys, Shreve, Crump & Low became synonymous with quality and taste, providing elegant pieces designed to grace the most fashionable homes of their time. Pieces of this quality were produced in limited quantities and often finished by specialized decorating studios rather than large factories.
Our unique tray dates back to 1964, is crafted of painted metal (toleware) and is richly decorated by hand. The central field features a gilded ground with a delicately painted bird perched on a flowering branch, a motif drawn from classical chinoiserie design.
The tray retains its original Shreve, Crump & Low oval label, an uncommon and desirable detail that enhances both authenticity and collectibility.
